Aave Labs is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to lead the design and implementation of high-quality web interfaces for the world's largest onchain lending market. You will operate autonomously across Aave's web products, bringing both technical excellence and product intuition to complex financial interfaces that serve users ranging from first-timers to power users.
In this role, you will own the full frontend stack: building performant, accessible UI components; evolving the Aave design system to set standards for quality and consistency; and establishing best practices for frontend performance across data loading, caching, server rendering, and streaming. You'll work closely with designers, product leads, and backend engineers to translate ambiguous problems into clear, elegant solutions. Your work will directly shape the direction of what the team builds, and you'll help raise the bar for the entire engineering organization through both the quality of your output and your approach to problem-solving.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, CSS, and system design and architecture
- Deep experience with frontend performance engineering: measuring, diagnosing, and fixing performance issues
- Strong command of Next.js patterns for data loading, fetching, caching, server rendering, and streaming
- Deep experience with component-driven design systems and component design patterns; ability to build for consistency at scale
- Product sense to work autonomously: identifying what needs to be solved, not just how to solve it
- Demonstrated ability to tackle complex UX problems (information-dense interfaces, multi-step flows, edge cases) and make them feel clear and resolved
NICE TO HAVES:
- Understanding of backend data handling
- Knowledge of animation best practices in data-updating scenarios and re-render behavior
- Curiosity about web3 and DeFi (expertise not required, but genuine interest valued)
- Curiosity about AI and its application in product engineering and workflows
