Join Datadog's Feature Flags team (formerly Eppo, acquired by Datadog) as a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer. This role bridges engineering and customer success, positioning you as the hands-on technical partner for strategic customers implementing feature flagging at scale.
You'll work directly inside customer codebases to architect, prototype, and deploy feature flag implementations across diverse environments—server-side, client-side, edge, mobile, and real-time streaming. Your responsibilities span the full customer lifecycle: pre-sales technical validation, architecture consulting for complex multi-service deployments, building proof-of-concept implementations, executing full migrations from legacy systems, and ensuring minimal disruption during cutover.
Key activities include consulting on flag architecture for high-scale environments, identifying implementation patterns and feeding insights back to Product and Engineering, collaborating with Sales and Solutions to de-risk deals, and partnering with the core Engineering team on technical edge cases and tooling improvements. You'll simplify complex technical tradeoffs for both engineering and non-technical stakeholders, operating comfortably across architecture discussions and hands-on coding in the same week.
You bring 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to ship production code across unfamiliar stacks and languages. You have hands-on experience with feature flagging, experimentation, or config management systems, and you're comfortable dropping into unfamiliar codebases quickly. Customer-facing experience or strong motivation to build it is essential—you thrive in the room with customer engineers, understand their constraints, and adapt your approach. You're motivated by outcomes: deal velocity, successful migrations, and customer trust.
Bonus experience includes forward-deployed or professional services engineering roles, large-scale system migrations, or startup environments where you owned ambiguous problems end-to-end.
Based in New York City with regular collaboration with the core Engineering team. The role offers competitive salary, equity (RSUs), comprehensive benefits including healthcare, dental, parental planning, mental health support, 401(k) match, paid time off, fitness reimbursements, and an employee stock purchase plan.
