Salary: EUR 137,000 - 165,000 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Field Engineer to support the company's presales and field engineering operations. You will work closely with Solution Engineers, Product, and Marketing to provide deep technical expertise, enablement, and strategic support for Grafana's most complex customer engagements.
In this role, you will operate as a top-tier individual contributor with minimal supervision, serving as a company-recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one area of the Grafana Platform. Your responsibilities include:
- Advise on and support strategic deals and customer engagements, collaborating with Solution Engineers and Observability Architects on complex technical challenges
- Develop and maintain deep subject matter expertise in one Grafana technology area, with broad knowledge across multiple Grafana and observability technologies (Loki, Prometheus, Tempo, Elastic, Splunk, Datadog, etc.)
- Create and curate technical training content (workshops, how-to guides, demo scripts) for product areas, establishing repeatable content review processes with Enablement and Product Management
- Architect, engineer, and maintain production demo and POV infrastructure at scale, ensuring reliability, security, and uptime
- Influence product direction by helping key customers adopt newer technologies and representing Field Engineering in product planning cycles
- Present at strategic marketing events (webinars, conferences, panels, blogs) as a Grafana ambassador
- Provide technical guidance and best practices to Solution Engineers, Observability Architects, and customers
- Mentor Senior and Staff Solution Engineers and Field Engineers
- Contribute to product documentation, white papers, blogs, and product direction input
You will be viewed by Sales and Field Engineering leadership as operating in the top 20% of the field team, with autonomy to drive the company's most strategic engagements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 8+ years of related technical experience, including 2+ years in a Senior Field Engineer role or equivalent (SRE, Developer, Architect, presales Solution Architect). Open source development experience is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of Grafana and associated technologies, with recognized SME depth in at least one area of the Grafana Platform; deep working knowledge across multiple observability technologies.
- Expert-level knowledge in at least one adjacent domain (e.g., IoT, AI/ML) beyond core observability stack, with demonstrated domain knowledge across the broader Grafana Ecosystem.
- Proven track record creating and maintaining product training assets (workshops, guides, structured content) adopted by the broader technical field organization.
- Demonstrated experience partnering cross-functionally with Product Management and Engineering to produce field-facing enablement content and influence roadmap priorities.
- Comfortable with at least one modern programming language and strong understanding of modern software development lifecycle, including debugging and investigation.
- Working familiarity with Linux and common tools.
- Practical experience using AI tools to generate and review code while retaining full ownership of final decisions and quality.
- Ability to architect modern applications on primary cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), including Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, with understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless, Microservices, and related technologies.
- Proven track record building and delivering strategic technical content (workshops, demos, decks, webinars, videos) for technical audiences, including complex POVs and competitive objection handling.
- Deep understanding of the sales process with ability to anticipate and proactively address challenges in complex, strategic sales cycles.
