Form Energy is hiring a Staff Equipment Engineer to lead automation and equipment engineering for their iron-air battery manufacturing facility in Weirton, WV. This is a technical leadership role within the Operations Engineering team, focused on owning and improving semi-manual and automated manufacturing equipment as the company scales production of its long-duration energy storage systems. You will serve as a primary technical lead responsible for the automated equipment required to ramp production, owning processes and improvements for complex robotic cells and automated hardware. Key responsibilities include defining and implementing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and equipment performance metrics to identify loss drivers and prioritize improvement work. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with product design and process development teams to provide DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) feedback, ensuring optimization for fully-automated, high-speed manufacturing. You will drive alignment with controls and process teams to improve solutions including torque tools, lift devices, vision checks, interlocks, and other equipment. Leading root-cause analysis of assembly and quality issues is critical—turning findings into durable equipment improvements that ensure safe and repeatable production. You'll support production ramp and sustaining operations, stabilizing builds and reducing variation across shifts, while mentoring and guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams to foster a culture of technical excellence. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Controls, or related discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience. You must have deep technical understanding of semi-manual and automated equipment for complex systems, demonstrated expertise with Fanuc Robotics and other automation equipment, and extensive experience developing assembly methods, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions in automated production environments. A proven track record of providing DFM/DFA feedback to influence part design, interfaces, tolerances, and fastening strategies is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, ability to identify and address process/design/human-factor issues, and effective cross-functional communication are required. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, comprehensive benefits including 100% medical/dental/vision premiums for employees and 80% for dependents, 12-20 weeks paid parental leave, and generous vacation. The Weirton facility is a 550,000-square-foot hub for high-volume battery production. Relocation assistance is available.
