Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. The Equipment Design team enables rapid innovation by designing, procuring, and building custom tooling and automation in-house. As Staff Equipment Design Engineer, you will own the complete lifecycle of custom manufacturing equipment, tooling, and automation systems—from greenfield concept and engineering analysis through assembly, factory bring-up, and operational handoff. You'll architect complex mechanical and mechatronic systems, including kinematic mechanisms, fluid power equipment, and precision automation. Your responsibilities include executing detailed stress, deflection, and tolerance stack (GD&T) analyses; selecting and integrating off-the-shelf actuators, sensors, and hardware; and developing high-precision mechatronic systems with open and closed-loop controls. You will work cross-functionally with Aircraft Manufacturing, Powertrain, Controls, and Advanced Manufacturing teams to support both current production and future programs. Key activities include providing DFM/DFA feedback to design teams, documenting design trade-offs for stakeholders, managing procurement, overseeing physical builds, troubleshooting automation on the factory floor, and refining processes for seamless integration. You'll also develop internal design tools, standards, and workflows to accelerate team productivity and scale equipment-building capabilities. Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent practical experience) with 5+ years of hands-on equipment design experience. Deep proficiency in 2D/3D CAD for manufacturing layouts, complex assembly models, and fabrication-ready drawings. Strong foundation in mechanical design principles, stress analysis, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up. Experience with mechatronic system integration, actuators, sensors, and control systems. Familiarity with aerospace or high-reliability manufacturing environments is a plus.
