Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company focused on powering the world's transition to clean energy. They engineer and manufacture advanced lithium-ion battery materials that increase energy density while reducing size and weight, enabling smaller, more powerful batteries for consumer devices and electric vehicles.
As Staff Engineer, Process Safety, you will be a senior technical contributor responsible for establishing and advancing process safety standards across the organization. You will coach and guide engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams on process safety requirements and risk mitigation strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading process hazard analysis activities (PHA, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA) and workshops
- Reviewing engineering documents and equipment designs to ensure compliance with internal standards, industry standards (API, NFPA, ASME, CGA, CCPS), and best practices
- Creating and maintaining process safety standards, specifications, and guidelines
- Calculating physical effects and consequences for process safety scenarios
- Performing risk assessments for emerging issues and developing mitigation plans
- Coordinating incident and near-miss investigations, defining corrective actions, and monitoring completion
- Conducting functional process safety reviews for Management of Change (MOC) workflows
- Influencing decision-making across all organizational levels to champion process safety
You will work closely with process engineers, equipment specialists, manufacturing teams, and EHS representatives on complex, multi-phase, multi-year projects. This is a unique opportunity to help implement and improve a newly deployed PSM/RMP program at a scaling organization.
Required qualifications: B.S. in Engineering or equivalent with 8+ years of technical process safety experience. Deep knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Program requirements. Experience applying protection strategies and identifying risk reduction options. Familiarity with relevant industry standards and ability to apply them to internal guidelines. Desired: dust explosion hazard analysis experience and process simulation proficiency.
