Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company developing intelligent autonomy systems, aircraft platforms, and simulation technologies for military and civilian operations globally. As a Staff Engineer on the HMS DevOps/Developer Experience team, you will architect and implement the automation, infrastructure, and CI/CD systems that power the software development lifecycle across Hivemind Solutions. This is a hands-on technical role focused on engineering maximum velocity, reproducibility, and security into distributed developer tooling and cloud testing environments. Key responsibilities include: • Design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade GitLab CI/CD pipelines and runner infrastructure for C++, Python, and Node.js projects, optimizing compilation speed and test execution. • Create automated tool integrations connecting GitLab, Jira, and Confluence via webhooks and APIs to orchestrate release workflows and state-change automation. • Write custom Python and Bash extensions for the pi-gov GenAI routing harness, implementing secure LLM routing rules and container configurations. • Deploy, scale, and optimize the Forge simulation and test orchestrator in Azure Gov Cloud, managing runner autoscaling and cloud compute efficiency. • Manage and secure Artifactory package registries, implementing secure container builds via BuildKit, secret injection, and Entra ID integration. • Partner with development teams to migrate legacy build systems to reproducible Nix developer environments, authoring Nix derivations and flake configurations. • Troubleshoot pipeline failures, build issues, registry access problems, and configuration drift across development infrastructure. Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. • Extensive hands-on experience building, maintaining, and scaling enterprise CI/CD systems with deep expertise in GitLab CI/CD pipelines and runner infrastructure. • Demonstrated experience writing automation scripts (Bash, Python) and utilizing webhooks/APIs to integrate engineering tools (Jira, Confluence, GitLab). • Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, multi-stage builds) and package managers (Conan, Poetry, Nix). • Proven experience deploying and managing application workloads in cloud environments (Azure Gov Cloud or AWS). • Knowledge of secure software development practices, secret management, and identity providers (Active Directory, Entra ID). • Strong Linux system administration, networking, and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. SECRET security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
