Shield AI is seeking a Staff Data Platform Engineer to design and build the foundational data infrastructure for its AI Factory. This hands-on technical leadership role involves architecting a knowledge-graph-centered API layer that unifies human and agentic workflows across the organization.
You will own the design and implementation of a platform that connects configurations, requirements, software versions, test executions, files, signals, training data, and results through stable identities and typed relationships. The platform provides consistent access to underlying storage and compute systems, serving as the backbone for mission-critical data operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing scalable platform architecture that balances developer productivity, semantic clarity, operational reliability, and system performance
- Implementing production-grade software and evaluating storage and compute technologies
- Establishing data-modeling patterns and best practices across teams
- Working directly with teams collecting and consuming data to understand requirements and drive adoption
- Ensuring long-term maintainability and portability of the data platform
This is a technical leadership position where you will guide the strategic direction of data infrastructure while remaining hands-on with implementation. You'll work across Shield AI's global operations, supporting teams in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, data architecture, and the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-moving defense-tech environment.
