Forter is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Core Engineering group, responsible for the real-time, low-latency infrastructure powering Forter's fraud detection decisions and external APIs. The team processes billions of requests daily, maintaining high availability, security, and performance at global scale.
In this role, you will design, build, and scale backend systems including the decision engine, ingestion and enrichment pipelines, schema management systems, and self-serve API platform. You'll own projects end-to-end from design through production rollout and monitoring, ensuring systems are low-latency, fault-tolerant, and high-throughput across distributed environments. You'll enhance observability, reliability, and developer experience through strong operational and tooling practices, and collaborate with Product, analysts, data scientists, and infrastructure teams to drive innovation across Forter's decision ecosystem.
Required qualifications include 10+ years building backend systems in large-scale production environments, with at least 2 years at Staff Engineer level or equivalent. Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Kotlin, or Node.js are essential, along with hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker) and proven ability to design and maintain high-scale distributed systems. You must demonstrate strong ownership, autonomy, and accountability, with excellent communication skills to explain complex systems to both technical and non-technical audiences, including direct customer collaboration.
Desirable experience includes API Gateway architectures, schema/versioning strategies, platformization efforts, real-time data processing frameworks (Flink, Storm), resilience patterns, collaboration with data science/ML teams, and contributions to developer platforms or infrastructure services.
