Illumio is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the design and development of container security capabilities for its breach containment platform. You will architect and build a novel Zero Trust Segmentation solution that operates at the application and pod level within Kubernetes and related container orchestration platforms (Istio, OpenShift, AKS, EKS, GKE). This role combines deep systems engineering with product ownership: you'll own critical features end-to-end, from design through rock-solid implementation, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with field teams and enterprise customers to shape the product roadmap.
You will work with a cutting-edge stack spanning operating systems, distributed applications, and visualization tools. The role requires designing elegant, scalable, secure, and supportable systems that protect critical infrastructure for large enterprises. You'll defend designs with peers, iterate on feedback, and deliver production-grade software that must work reliably at scale.
Required: Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent; 8+ years building distributed, scalable software systems; proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or similar languages; strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, networking, and debugging; Unix/Linux experience; TCP/IP networking knowledge. Preferred: Master's degree; experience with Kubernetes and container technologies; networking and security controls background.
The role is based in Sunnyvale, CA headquarters with 5 on-site days per week. This position involves access to U.S. export-controlled software and is contingent on compliance with export regulations.
