Adyen is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the technical vision and execution of its banking products—Bank Accounts, Payouts, and Liquidity Management—which are core to the company's financial platform serving enterprises like Meta, Uber, and Microsoft.
In this role, you will operate at the intersection of product, engineering, and commercial strategy, working across time zones to shape the technical foundation and capabilities of banking products at global scale. You'll partner closely with product and commercial leadership to define how customers hold and manage their finances, while driving engineering excellence across a team of ~30 engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting new standards for quality, reliability, and robustness by driving systematic and tactical improvements in engineering systems, design practices, and operational excellence
- Making and coaching others on long-term technical decisions that ensure scalable, maintainable systems
- Collaborating with product teams to design and define new banking product offerings
- Serving as a primary problem-solver for customer needs and a pilot for prototyping new product ideas
- Fostering a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, and collaboration
- Mentoring and coaching engineers to grow their professional skills and careers
You bring 10+ years of software engineering experience, with proven success designing and scaling large, complex systems. You have prior experience functioning as a senior Staff Engineer or Tech Lead at comparable tech companies, ideally managing or influencing teams of 30+ engineers. Financial infrastructure experience (issuing, banking, treasury, embedded finance) is highly valued. You excel at cross-functional collaboration, deeply understand customer needs, and balance efficiency with long-term sustainability. You're skilled at coaching, driving technical discussions to sound conclusions, and making teams deliver faster and better.
