The Staff Engineer, Backend role is a hands-on senior individual contributor position focused on raising the bar for backend engineering across the platform. This is not a management role—you will lead through technical judgment, execution, and mentorship rather than direct reports.
Key responsibilities include:
• Writing high-quality, production-grade backend code that prioritizes performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability
• Governing backend architecture standards, patterns, and service boundaries in partnership with the Staff Software Architect
• Mentoring and guiding other engineers on the team, helping them grow technically and adopt best practices
• Designing and implementing scalable systems that support both the next generation of the platform and current customer-facing services
• Making pragmatic technical decisions that balance innovation with stability
• Collaborating with architecture and engineering leadership to shape backend systems and accelerate team velocity without compromising quality
• Establishing patterns and standards that keep services maintainable as the platform evolves
You will work in a hybrid arrangement (Monday–Wednesday in office) in Lehi, UT. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who thrives on technical leadership, system design, and helping teams move faster through better engineering practices.
