Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Autonomy Capabilities Team, which develops advanced autonomy software for single- and multi-agent platforms across defense and aerospace applications. The team operates across the full command-and-control hierarchy—from low-level control laws and motion planning through high-level tactical behaviors and multi-agent coordination—and spans multiple mission sets, platform types, and operational domains including air, sea, and space.
In this role, you will solve complex technical problems across diverse programs and integration contexts, developing solutions that blend traditional control system approaches with advanced optimization techniques. You will work on both fundamental challenges (aircraft kinematics/dynamics, trajectory design, optimization, information fusion, efficient algorithms) and software integration skillsets (structures, protocols, threading, interface management). Your work will directly impact real-world platforms with near-term operational deployment, requiring you to balance theoretical rigor with practical implementation.
Shield AI's products include Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation technologies. The company is venture-backed with global operations across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of advanced methodologies and real-world system integration, where solutions must seamlessly operate within customer integration contexts and deliver measurable operational value.
