Dutchie is a comprehensive technology platform powering dispensary operations and consumer access to cannabis. Founded in 2017, the company has raised over $600M and is backed by top-tier investors including D1 Capital Partners, Tiger Global, and Dragoneer. Dutchie powers thousands of dispensaries across 40+ markets in the US and Canada and was named in Fast Company's 10 Most Innovative Companies in North America.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll work across teams to solve the hardest technical problems and steer the platform's technical direction. You'll operate at the core of Dutchie's platform, making it better, faster, and more reliable while partnering with teams across the organization on integrations and shared problems that no single team owns. You'll shape how the engineering organization builds, including establishing best practices for AI-integrated development.
Key responsibilities include: making real improvements to enterprise-grade retail software at scale; setting technical direction and making architecture decisions that shape system evolution; working with stakeholders to scope and stress-test customer-facing features; engaging directly with customers to understand their workflows and pain points; partnering across the org on unified solutions for cross-team problems; mentoring other engineers; helping teams plan and de-risk large initiatives; and setting the bar for engineering judgment, code quality, and craft.
You'll bring deep engineering expertise with a track record of building and running production systems at scale. You should have hands-on experience in at least one modern backend stack (Dutchie uses .NET/C#, TypeScript, Ruby, and React on frontend, backed by PostgreSQL, MS SQL, and MongoDB). Experience designing scalable data models across relational and non-relational stores is essential. You routinely use LLMs for research, diagnosis, planning, code writing and review, and are comfortable in an agentic-first environment. You make the people around you better, are genuinely curious about customers, can hold multiple threads while reprioritizing cleanly, communicate well across technical and non-technical audiences, and own outcomes from ambiguous problem to production.
