Arc is electrifying the marine industry by rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. The company has proven core technology, is scaling production of flagship consumer models, and is now extending its platform to commercial applications including tugs, ferries, and defense vessels with signed contracts and a substantial pipeline.
As Staff Electrical Systems Engineer, you will own the design, build, integration, and execution of electrical systems on commercial vessels. This is a full-time, on-site role reporting to the Manager of Commercial Systems Engineering, working with a lean, high-trust team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning design and integration of high and low voltage electrical systems for commercial marine vessels
- Developing and maintaining electrical topologies, I/O maps, and wiring/harnessing definitions
- Writing functional specifications and collaborating with control software teams for seamless hardware-software integration
- Leading hardware trade studies, component selection, and supplier evaluation
- Hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and debugging HV/LV systems in benchtop, HIL, and field environments
- Supporting sea trials to validate systems and ensure feature parity between test setups and production vessels
- Interfacing with component suppliers, partner shipyards, and vessel operators (10-15% travel)
Required qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related field; 7+ years in electrical systems integration, hardware development, or system-level engineering; strong understanding of HV/LV electrical systems, power distribution, sensors, and actuators; familiarity with automotive or industrial communication protocols (CAN/J1939, Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT); hands-on debugging experience with HV/LV systems using multimeters and oscilloscopes; experience developing system requirements, I/O allocation maps, and architectural documentation; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to take ownership and adapt quickly. ITAR compliance required (U.S. person status).
Bonus qualifications include background in industrial automation, automotive EV, marine, robotics, or aerospace; knowledge of industrial electrical control panel design; Battery Management Systems experience; familiarity with ABS, USCG, IEEE, or IEC marine standards; functional safety concepts; EMC/EMI design experience; proficiency with electrical schematic tools (EPLAN, Zuken, AutoCAD Electrical, Visio).
