This Staff Electrical Engineer role is based in Pleasanton, California, and represents a critical leadership position within the hardware test and verification organization. You will lead a growing team responsible for testing and debugging complex electronic circuits that form the foundation of next-generation quantum instruments. The circuits include a sophisticated mix of FPGAs, MCUs, mixed-signal electronics, precision analog components, and photonics devices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team tasked with both testing and debugging complex electronic circuits for quantum systems
- Collaborating with physicists, electrical, mechanical, software, and optical engineers to develop comprehensive test procedures
- Defining design-for-test (DFT) and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) improvements with engineering and manufacturing teams
- Creating and overseeing test plans for environmental, EMI, and EMC testing at external facilities
- Using electronic test and measurement equipment to characterize and verify performance
- Defining equipment and software infrastructure for automated data systems in production environments
- Mentoring early-career engineers and leading by example
You will be part of the leadership team shaping the direction of hardware test strategy, balancing both strategic planning and hands-on execution. The role requires comfort working in the lab, debugging challenging board-level issues, and rapidly improving verification procedures to support cutting-edge electronics development. Up to 10% travel (domestic or international) is expected.
