CesiumAstro is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as Unit Lead for the Reconfigurable Processing Unit (RPU) product line. The RPU is a complex, VPX-based electronics system integrating software-defined radios, single-board computers, power supply modules, and RF front ends, all driven by CesiumAstro modems and software for satellite, UAV, launch vehicle, and airborne platforms.
As Unit Lead (Responsible Engineer), you will own both the technical definition and execution of new RPU products. This role combines deep, multi-disciplinary technical accountability with responsibility for on-time schedule execution and delivery of flight-qualified systems. You will lead the design, development, integration, test, and flight qualification of advanced spaceborne payloads.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a multidisciplinary technical team through product development cycles
- Defining technical architecture and driving execution across hardware, software, and RF domains
- Managing development of new VPX modules, backplanes, interface options, and software features
- Ensuring products meet customer requirements and regulatory/qualification standards
- Serving as primary technical point of contact for program managers and customers
- Balancing technical excellence with schedule and cost constraints in a fast-paced startup environment
You will need strength in electrical engineering fundamentals, systems integration, project management, leadership, and communication. Experience with space-qualified electronics, VPX standards, RF systems, and government contracting is highly valuable. The role requires a U.S. citizen or eligible individual per ITAR/export control regulations.
