CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to join the Internal Missions team, responsible for spacecraft electronics and hardware development across all stages of the satellite development lifecycle. This role focuses on designing and implementing electrical systems for advanced communication satellites, with responsibilities spanning serial communications, Ethernet networking, EMI mitigation, wiring, and electrical/data interfaces between spacecraft subsystems.
You will serve as an electrical systems generalist, owning the complete spacecraft electrical design from concept through test, qualification, and in-orbit support. Key responsibilities include developing electrical concepts and roadmaps, conducting architecture trade studies, creating block diagrams, designing electrical hardware, overseeing manufacturing and testing, and providing in-orbit engineering support. The role requires creative problem-solving to address complex spacecraft design challenges while optimizing for mass, cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
As part of a small, collaborative engineering team, you will work directly with program management and cross-functional teams to design, build, and launch satellites. The company is developing Element, described as the largest and most powerful rideshare satellite in LEO, with eight units planned for launch over the next four years, beginning this year. Your work will have direct impact on mission success and the company's trajectory.
The ideal candidate is an electrical systems expert comfortable in a startup environment, motivated to deliver end-to-end spacecraft electrical design, and passionate about advancing satellite communications technology. You will engage in hands-on, interactive work with significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape the technical direction of next-generation satellite platforms.
