Mainspring Energy manufactures fuel-flexible, low-emissions local power solutions for Fortune 500 companies, data centers, and utilities. The company has shipped hundreds of megawatts of its Linear Generators since 2020 and partners with global energy leaders including AEP, NextEra Energy Resources, and Schneider Electric.
This Staff Electrical Engineer role offers end-to-end ownership of critical electrical hardware and PCBA designs for the Linear Generator platform. You will take technical leadership on low-voltage control systems (< 60V) and guide cross-functional teams through complex hardware challenges—moving well beyond routine component-level work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design low-voltage electrical systems and PCBAs that enable core Linear Generator functions
- Own full bring-up, validation, and qualification of custom electrical hardware designs
- Lead cross-functional design reviews to present concepts, align requirements, and secure approvals
- Debug and troubleshoot complex hardware issues across field deployments, test labs, and production
- Partner with reliability engineers to analyze performance and increase system robustness
- Collaborate with NPI teams and suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability and testability
- Interface with high-voltage hardware teams and define firmware requirements
- Mentor peers while learning complex design concepts alongside a world-class engineering team
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years experience with Bachelor's degree (or 7+ years with Master's) in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Hands-on experience designing, troubleshooting, and realizing low-voltage hardware (DC/DC converters, relays, e-fuses, MOSFETs)
- Proficiency with PCBA schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium preferred)
- Strong fundamentals in analog/mixed-signal design (op-amps, ADCs, filtering)
- Experience with component derating, tolerance stack-ups, and DFMEA
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects from requirements through production
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical teams
Preferred qualifications include full hardware development lifecycle experience, familiarity with reliability and environmental validation testing (HALT, thermal, Hipot, vibration), startup or rapid product development background, project management tools (Jira, Confluence), and basic programming/scripting (Python, C, C++) for lab automation.
