Alpaca is a US-headquartered global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, and 24/5 trading. The company serves hundreds of financial institutions across 40 countries with institutional-grade APIs, supporting over 10 million brokerage accounts. Backed by $400 million in funding from top-tier investors including Portage Ventures, Spark Capital, and Y Combinator, Alpaca operates a globally distributed team of 400+ members.
As Staff Data Scientist, Growth, you will own how Alpaca measures and grows across the entire customer journey—from acquisition and activation through retention and monetization. This is a greenfield charter where you'll define the problems worth solving, not just execute a roadmap. You'll be the most senior individual contributor for growth data, setting technical direction and establishing the North Star for growth.
Key responsibilities include:
• Own the growth funnel end-to-end, analyzing acquisition, activation, retention, referral, and monetization to identify highest-leverage growth opportunities.
• Run the growth experimentation engine: design and execute A/B tests and causal/incrementality studies on onboarding, activation nudges, funding conversion, pricing, lifecycle campaigns, and referral loops. Build guardrails, metrics, and self-serve tooling for rigorous experimentation.
• Model growth through retention/cohort analyses, churn and LTV models, CAC/payback and unit-economics views, and forecasts of core metrics. Identify compounding levers and growth loops.
• Measure marketing and partnership impact using attribution, incrementality testing, and marketing-mix analysis to guide acquisition spend and payback.
• Define growth metrics that matter: establish activation, retention, engagement, and monetization metrics with a clear North Star. Partner with analytics engineering to build governed, scalable metrics and dashboards.
• Embed cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Finance to shape strategy and turn insights into roadmap, campaigns, and go-to-market decisions.
• Create compelling visualizations and narratives to communicate growth insights to cross-functional partners and senior leadership.
• Enable self-serve and agentic analytics by operationalizing growth analytics and contributing to text-to-analytics capabilities.
• Mentor other data scientists and analysts, contributing to best practices and fostering a data-informed growth culture.
Requirements:
• Proven expertise in growth and/or product analytics and data science with strong background in statistical analysis and experimentation.
• Hands-on experience with growth/funnel analytics including acquisition, activation, retention/churn, LTV/CAC, cohort analysis, and lifecycle/CRM analytics.
• Experience designing and building experimentation tooling and frameworks for trustworthy A/B tests and causal-inference/incrementality analyses.
• Familiarity with marketing measurement (attribution, incrementality, or marketing-mix modeling) is a strong plus.
