Salary: USD 143,000 - 191,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Staff Controls Engineer to join the Automation team at Arsenal-1, an advanced manufacturing facility in Columbus, OH. The Automation team designs and commissions automated equipment for high-rate production.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, commissioning, and upgrading control systems for production equipment. You will architect, write, and debug Siemens PLC code with emphasis on generating organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code for high-volume manufacturing applications. You will generate and enforce internal standards for control systems architectures, regulatory compliance, and safety buyoffs.
Key responsibilities include integrating internal and external FactoryOS software into automation equipment and production lines, leading root cause analysis and corrective actions for automation failures to ensure rapid resolution and long-term reliability, and installing, configuring, and tuning servo drives and VFDs. You will partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, you will mentor junior controls engineers and provide technical direction on integrator-delivered work.
This is a technical leadership role where you will set standards and guide the controls engineering discipline across the facility while maintaining hands-on expertise in PLC programming, automation design, and manufacturing systems integration.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- 8+ years of experience in controls and automation in a production environment
- Expert in Siemens PLC programming (Ladder and Structured Text)
- Proficient in servo drive and VFD configuration, PID tuning, STO/SS, etc.
- Strong knowledge of ethernet-based communication protocols (ProfiNET, ProfiSAFE, Ethernet IP)
- Proficient with electrical component selection and solid foundation of wire sizing, circuit protection, and heat management in control cabinets
- Experience integrating with SCADA and OT Networking
- Experience performing Risk Assessments and Controls Safety Design
- Proficient with pneumatic concepts and design
- Familiar with NFPA70e electrical safety practices
- Active U.S. Government SECRET security clearance
- Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 12+ years of experience in controls and automation in a production environment
- Experience with control panel layout, electrical component selection, and cable routing
- Electrical troubleshooting up to 600VAC
- Experience with SCADA platforms such as Ignition, including Perspective and tag historian configuration
- TUV FS Engineer certification (Functional Safety of Machinery)
- Experience mentoring engineers and setting controls standards across a facility
- Active U.S. Government TOP SECRET security clearance
