CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Communications Systems Modeling & Simulation Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. In this role, you will lead the design and development of communications system architectures, interfaces, subsystems, and performance models supporting product development across multiple programs. You will guide system modeling, link analysis, performance evaluation, trade studies, simulation, and system integration activities. Your responsibilities include developing communications system architectures and technical solutions that satisfy product, customer, performance, interoperability, and system requirements. You will leverage a digital modeling and simulation ecosystem of tools to model communication system architecture in support of architecture trade studies, new business efforts, and requirement development. You will lead efforts to establish streamlined, repeatable modeling and simulation processes and identify opportunities for workflow automation and reuse across programs and product lines. Additional responsibilities include conducting verification, validation, testing, simulation, integration, and troubleshooting activities; resolving complex communications systems and system integration issues through analysis of simulation results and system performance data; guiding implementation of engineering changes and design updates; leading collaboration with systems, software, RF, electrical, mechanical, integration and test, quality, and program teams; preparing technical documentation and interface control documentation; leading design reviews and technical investigations; and promoting consistent application of engineering standards and systems engineering best practices. You will evaluate communications systems engineering methods and modeling practices to identify improvement opportunities and guide continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen system performance, requirements quality, modeling accuracy, and technical execution. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related engineering field with 8–12 years of related experience; OR Master's degree with 6–8 years of related experience; OR PhD with 3–5 years of related experience in systems engineering, system architecture, requirements management, configuration management, systems integration, or related discipline. - Advanced knowledge of communications systems, systems engineering principles, system architecture, requirements development, and interface management. - Proficiency in systems modeling, link analysis, performance evaluation, simulation tools, trade studies, and engineering analysis methods. - In-depth knowledge of digital communications, RF fundamentals, networking concepts, signal processing, interface development, interoperability, and system integration. - Understanding of systems engineering processes, verification methodologies, engineering documentation, requirements management, technical standards, and model validation. - Proficiency in modeling and simulation, product development, configuration management, multidisciplinary engineering collaboration, and system performance optimization. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). - Experience with engineering analysis and modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, STK, Python, or equivalent applications. - Experience with engineering documentation, requirements management, and collaboration tools such as DOORS, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent applications. - Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, or refugee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
