Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, seeks a Staff Battery Engineer to drive the development of energy storage systems (ESSs) powering next-generation drone products. You will own battery pack development end-to-end, from concept through full-rate production, serving as the primary technical interface between the Core Battery Group and internal product teams.
Key responsibilities include: owning ESS delivery on accelerated timelines; translating user requirements into actionable ESS specifications; leading battery cell selection using de-risking and validation processes; partnering with mechanical engineers on design iterations across component testing, mini modules, prototype packs, and production units; supporting manufacturing ramp-up and scale; conducting hands-on battery bring-up, testing, and vehicle integration; and performing root cause analysis on fielded systems to drive design improvements.
You will take individual ownership of battery packs from cell selection through prototype iterations to production, acting as a self-starter with deep technical expertise. The role demands extreme ownership, hands-on problem-solving, and the ability to thrive on demanding timelines in a fast-moving defense environment.
Required: Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or Physical Sciences with energy storage focus) plus 10+ years designing, testing, and troubleshooting energy storage systems. Demonstrated ownership of battery pack design and prototype assembly; delivery of robust systems from prototype to production; professional awareness of BMS electrical design, algorithms, or validation; battery cell characterization or modeling/simulation experience; CAD proficiency (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks); understanding of UN38.3, NAVSEA S9310, or equivalent battery safety standards; U.S. Person status required for export-controlled access.
Preferred: Graduate degree in relevant field; familiarity with MIL-STD standards (882, 810, 704, 461, 464); advanced CAD experience; drone/UAV deployment experience; student competition background (Formula SAE, Hyperloop, racing).
