As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will operate at a senior technical level, designing and implementing core APIs, data pipelines, and essential business systems that power both user and trainer experiences. You'll work across the full stack of product surfaces, from foundational infrastructure to rapid feature iteration, collaborating closely with engineering teams and product managers to deliver scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and test APIs for new products, features, and services
- Maintain and optimize existing systems with emphasis on database performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders
- Stay current with latest technologies and industry best practices, mentoring fellow engineers
- Serve as on-call engineer approximately one week per month for issue triage
You bring 8+ years of production backend/API development experience, with strong expertise in Go, AWS, Docker (ECS), and Postgres (RDS). You have proven ability to implement software quality measures including unit/integration testing, monitoring, and alerting. You're experienced managing Docker-based microservice architectures and thrive in fast-moving startup environments where you can balance engineering excellence with velocity. Experience with ETL and database performance optimization is a plus.
