Altruist is transforming the wealth management industry with an AI platform for financial advisors. The company partners with advisors nationwide to help them grow, optimize resources, and deliver better outcomes for clients. You will join the Platform team as a Staff Backend Engineer during an exceptional growth phase. This role focuses on developing and scaling robust backend systems and creating tooling used across all product teams. You'll collaborate closely with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams to solve challenging technical problems and deliver exceptional solutions. The position emphasizes autonomy for design and implementation while working collaboratively with the team. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres - Implement architectures for highly distributed and resilient systems in AWS and Kubernetes environments - Mentor and guide teams in secure coding practices, ensuring code is performant and resilient against security vulnerabilities - Employ automated testing practices to ensure high-quality code - Contribute to shared infrastructure services that benefit all of Altruist Required qualifications: - 3+ years building scalable backend services at B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organizations - Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs - Expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems - Strong SQL knowledge (Postgres, MySQL) - Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm - Understanding of performant and reliable systems - B.A./B.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent experience) - Excellent communication and ownership mindset Bonus skills: AI expertise (Claude), AWS cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), Debezium, Temporal, and related tooling. The role is hybrid with three in-office days per week at the Culver City or San Francisco FiDi location.
