Relativity Space is building next-generation rockets and space systems to serve commercial and scientific missions. As a Staff Avionics Mechanical Engineer, you will own the complete design, development, and delivery of mechanical hardware for advanced space science avionics platforms. This includes enclosures, mounting structures, thermal management systems, and interfaces to spacecraft. You will be responsible for ensuring avionics survive launch and space environments while solving complex thermal and structural challenges in mass-efficient, tight packaging.
This is a hands-on, self-driven role in a fast-paced, prototype-heavy environment. You will work from first principles to rapidly iterate on designs, perform structural and thermal analysis, conduct testing, and lead delivery of flight-ready avionics mechanical systems. You'll collaborate across propulsion, manufacturing, software, and corporate teams to shape product decisions and see your work deployed in record time.
You bring 7+ years of mechanical design, packaging, or thermal management experience in aerospace or ruggedized electronic systems. You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. You have demonstrated expertise in CAD tools, FEA analysis, thermal modeling, and spacecraft/avionics design. You are comfortable with rapid prototyping, testing methodologies, and working within strict mass and volume constraints. Experience with space-qualified components, vibration/shock analysis, and launch environment qualification is valued. You thrive in ambiguity, take ownership of complex problems, and communicate clearly across disciplines.
