Relativity Space is building rockets and spacecraft for commercial and scientific missions. As a Staff Avionics Hardware Engineer within the Interplanetary Sciences Program, you will own the design, development, and delivery of spacecraft avionics systems from concept through flight qualification. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you will set technical standards and architecture for the company's future interplanetary avionics capabilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop complete avionics systems, including architecture, design, integration, and verification from concept through flight-qualified hardware
- Collaborate with propulsion, guidance and control, thermal, and software teams to ensure seamless integration and performance
- Implement robust design and test processes that ensure reliability and safety for deep-space missions
- Lead technical execution of avionics hardware builds, including PCB design, harnessing, embedded systems, and environmental qualification
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to manage component selection, procurement, and supply chain
- Define and document avionics requirements, design specifications, and verification plans
- Mentor junior engineers and help establish best practices as the team grows
You will work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where autonomy and ownership are valued at every level. The role requires someone who can execute with minimal oversight, solve novel technical problems, and thrive in the early stages of building a new spacecraft program. This is an opportunity to shape the foundation of Relativity's interplanetary exploration capabilities and leave a lasting mark on the company's technical direction.
