Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Staff Automation Engineer to join its Manufacturing Automation team in Costa Mesa, California. The team is responsible for designing, integrating, and deploying automated manufacturing systems across Anduril factories at national scale.
In this role, you will own automation projects end-to-end—from concept and scoping through design, build, commissioning, and production handover. You will design and build automated manufacturing systems to improve production throughput, product quality, and operator safety. Key responsibilities include:
• Own the design and integration of automation cells including robot/cobot applications, material movement systems, bespoke electromechanical systems, and automated inspection
• Integrate control systems across cells, including PLCs, HMIs, machine vision, robotics, and safety systems
• Generate 2D and 3D CAD files for automation lines and their systems/components
• Work with product-specific design and manufacturing teams to scope appropriate automation levels
• Collaborate with IE and Facilities teams to lay out production lines in new and existing factories
• Enforce and contribute to internal processes and standards, including requirements definition, vendor solicitation, commissioning sequences, and safety buyoffs
• Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement
• Define the automation technology roadmap and internal standards across Anduril factories
• Provide technical leadership across multiple concurrent automation programs and mentor engineers across the team
This is a high-impact role where you will help shape production automation strategy for a defense technology leader building AI-powered military systems.
