Oura is seeking a Staff Acoustic Sensor Architect to lead the design and implementation of the audio experience for next-generation wearable hardware. This role bridges physical acoustics and digital signal processing, overseeing the complete audio chain from transducer selection through on-chip noise cancellation algorithms. Key responsibilities include: **Architecture & Design**: Lead evaluation and selection of MEMS microphones and speaker drivers based on sensitivity, SNR, THD, and frequency response. Collaborate with mechanical engineers on acoustic enclosure design, ports, and gaskets to optimize hardware performance. **Characterization & Validation**: Perform comprehensive electro-acoustic measurements using industry-standard tools (Audio Precision, Klippel, Listen SoundCheck). Conduct testing in anechoic chambers to characterize polar patterns, SPL, and acoustic distortion. **Audio Signal Processing**: Define and tune on-chip processing parameters including gain control, EQ, and dynamic range compression. Develop and implement algorithms for active noise cancellation (ANC), echo cancellation (AEC), and multi-microphone beamforming. **Noise Management**: Identify and mitigate acoustic and electrical noise floors (wind noise, structural vibration, EMI). Optimize the digital signal path for low-latency processing and power efficiency. **Cross-Functional Leadership**: Lead integration of sensors into Oura Ring hardware, ensuring calibration and signal quality. Collaborate with firmware, algorithm, and systems teams. Contribute to product planning and sensor roadmap discussions. **Supplier Coordination**: Engage with sensor vendors and manufacturers to assess technology options and optimize mass-production workflows. Required qualifications: 10+ years in acoustic, microphone systems, or speaker design with high-volume product shipping experience. Strong background in acoustic characterization, signal quality analysis, embedded systems, and data integrity. Excellent analytical problem-solving and communication skills. Collaborative experience across hardware, firmware, and analytics teams.
