Zscaler is seeking a Senior Staff Software Development Engineer to join its core API team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on designing and building the foundational APIs and microservices that power Zscaler's Zero Trust Exchange platform.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop high-performance, scalable, secure, and reliable APIs that serve as the backbone of the platform
- Build and extend microservices, develop client-side integrations with internal and external APIs (RESTful services and SDKs)
- Partner with front-end engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver robust endpoints that power intuitive interfaces
- Champion DevOps practices including continuous integration, infrastructure provisioning, automated deployment, and testing
- Drive architectural leadership by contributing to system design, architectural governance, and shaping the long-term technical roadmap
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of hands-on software development experience with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, or Quarkus. You should have proven experience building distributed, cloud-native applications with deep knowledge of containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) on AWS or GCP. You thrive in fast-paced Agile environments, work independently with minimal supervision, and actively explore AI tools to enhance problem-solving and workflows.
Preferred qualifications include polyglot programming skills (Java, Go, Python, C++), advanced CI/CD pipeline design (GitLab CI/CD), and deep Kubernetes expertise. You are driven by solving complex technical challenges, think at scale, and connect your work to broader business impact. You value candid feedback, collaborate effectively across teams, and use data to validate technical decisions.
