Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. We seek a Senior Staff Engineer to architect and own the "Data Backbone" infrastructure that powers our Data Engineering and ML teams.
You will be responsible for designing, scaling, and maintaining high-throughput data systems that enable data scientists to seamlessly move from JupyterHub notebooks to massive Ray clusters or Trino queries without worrying about underlying infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with company-wide scope.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect and manage the lifecycle of data tools (Trino, Ray, JupyterHub) on Kubernetes
- Drive GitOps and automation philosophy using ArgoCD and Terraform for stateful data environments
- Build high-cardinality monitoring systems using VictoriaMetrics and Vector
- Maintain and optimize MLflow for model tracking and ML lifecycle support
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in data processing pipelines
- Participate in on-call rotations, treating data downtime with production-level urgency
Required expertise includes deep Kubernetes knowledge (scheduling, affinity, resource management), experience with Trino and Ray at scale, high-performance data routing via Vector, monitoring with VictoriaMetrics, MLflow/JupyterHub, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, ArgoCD). You should be comfortable writing Go or Python to extend Kubernetes operators and automate workflows.
You bring 8+ years of infrastructure engineering experience, with proven ability to handle stateful systems, persistent volumes, and data gravity. You've managed 2:00 AM outages and built automation to prevent recurrence. You thrive in ambiguity, turning high-level requirements into multi-week infrastructure roadmaps. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience required.
