Hims & Hers is a public healthcare platform (NYSE: HIMS) on a mission to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and personalized. The Patient team builds services for the Patient Health Data Platform, enabling both patient and provider experiences. As a Senior Software Engineer on the backend, you will be a key technical leader responsible for designing and implementing scalable, high-performance solutions across back-end systems. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and influence the platform's technical direction. Key responsibilities include: - Lead design and architecture of scalable, performant backend solutions using microservices and distributed systems - Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on best practices, design patterns, and coding standards - Advocate for your team's technical needs and priorities within the broader engineering organization - Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility and validate ideas with prototypes - Work closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration across systems - Contribute to the platform vision by identifying strategic technologies and technical investments that improve security, scalability, reliability, and performance - Implement observability practices including logging, monitoring, and alerting - Elevate engineering standards by leading efforts to improve workflows, processes, and tools - Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to identify optimization opportunities - Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture and development processes - Conduct code reviews and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives - Assist with hiring and onboarding of new engineers - Model a culture of open communication and continuous improvement Required qualifications: - 5+ years as a software engineer shipping production code - 3+ years of experience with backend distributed system design, development, and delivery - 3+ years of experience with microservice architectures - Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience - Proven experience building scalable web applications and services in cloud environments - Proficiency with Kubernetes and AWS for delivery and hosting - Experience with relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred - Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills - Experience with agile development, CI/CD processes, and automated testing - Strong communication and collaboration skills Preferred qualifications include healthcare tech experience, familiarity with front-end technologies (React, React Native, NextJS), experience building developer frameworks or tools, and web performance optimization expertise.
