Apera AI is a Vancouver-based robotics and AI company that has won the 2025 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Leadership Award and the 2024 BC Tech "Company of the Year, Growth" award. The company develops 4D Vision software that enables robots to see and grasp objects with human-like capability, serving leading automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with applications in bin picking, sorting, packaging, and assembly.
You will join a small, high-ownership team building the cloud platform infrastructure that securely and reliably deploys Apera's vision software to customer devices in the field. Currently, deployment relies on threading through customer firewalls, third-party remote-access tools that enterprise security teams increasingly reject, and fragile internal processes. You'll replace this with a real platform: a secure, trusted channel to every deployed device, cloud-hosted deployment infrastructure with proper access control, and internal tooling that the rest of engineering can use independently.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design and build the connectivity layer that creates a secure, trusted channel between Apera systems in the field and the company for deployment, telemetry, and support. This becomes the single point of contact between Apera and customer cells, eliminating reliance on third-party remote-access tools and handling disconnected sites.
• Build account and permissions structures that work at enterprise scale, enabling IT managers to administer users and share resources across teams. Own the infrastructure work behind security certifications customers expect.
• Migrate deployment systems from aging on-premise hardware to the cloud without service interruption. Own the full pipeline: how updates are built, versioned, distributed, and authorized. Implement role-based access control so production updates are deliberate, authorized acts.
• Build the data pipeline that captures failure modes and field data from devices, routes it into internal systems for triage and labeling, and feeds insights back into model training.
• Establish cost attribution and governance for cloud infrastructure, breaking down training and storage costs by team, customer, and engineer to align incentives as the platform scales.
This is a high-ownership role where you'll have significant say in roadmap sequencing, architecture decisions, and prioritization. You'll work closely with on-device platform engineers and the broader team to solve real enterprise deployment challenges.
