ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Workflow Data Fabric and Integration Hub team in Hyderabad. This is a backend-focused role where you will own significant components end-to-end, drive technical design for integration and protocol capabilities used by thousands of customers, and raise the engineering bar for the team.
You will own a feature area or component end-to-end, including technical direction, design, build, test, documentation, release and post-release health. Key responsibilities include authoring and reviewing design documents for integration and protocol interfaces that customers can extend and customize; defining versioning and backward compatibility strategy for public contracts; designing for failure and scale with explicit failure modes; leading investigation of complex, escalated customer integration failures; identifying and paying down technical debt and performance bottlenecks; mentoring IC1 and IC2 engineers through design reviews and code reviews; and collaborating with product management, UX, quality engineering and adjacent platform teams.
You will work with expert-level Java or JavaScript/Node.js, designing REST/SOAP APIs and integration frameworks. Deep expertise in OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS and API key authentication is required, along with distributed systems design (retries, idempotency, backpressure, rate limiting, circuit breaking). You will apply data modeling, SQL and query optimization at scale, implement observability from the start, and design automated testing and CI/CD pipelines. ServiceNow platform scripting (Glide APIs, Script Includes, Business Rules, Scripted REST APIs) and Flow Designer spoke development experience is expected, or the ability to ramp quickly.
The role offers exposure to AI integration into workflows and decision-making, and you will work on platform and developer-facing products. Prior ServiceNow experience is a plus but not required; the expectation is the ability to ramp quickly on the platform.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of owning backend systems or services in production
- Expert-level Java or JavaScript/Node.js with strong computer science fundamentals (concurrency, memory management, performance profiling)
- Demonstrated experience designing, consuming and debugging integrations against third-party systems, including handling undocumented or inconsistent behavior
- Strong working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS and API key authentication flows and security trade-offs
- Experience designing APIs or extension points with backward compatibility and versioning requirements
- Proven debugging and root-cause analysis across system boundaries in production environments
- Data modeling, SQL and query optimization for large datasets
- Automated testing as part of your own delivery and experience improving test strategy for a team
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design discussions
- Agile, sprint-based development experience
- Clear written communication, including design documents and technical decision records
- Experience leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving
GOOD TO HAVE:
- Protocol-level work: JSON-RPC, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, streaming or long-lived connections
- Experience deploying to AWS EKS, Azure AKS or Google GKE
- Model Context Protocol (MCP), tool or function calling, agent-facing API design
- JDBC/ODBC drivers, database connectivity, or query engine internals
- Experience building platform or developer-facing products (SDKs, connectors, integration frameworks)
- React or comparable frontend framework
