Antares Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Scientist II / Principal Scientist to lead chemical biology efforts on the proteomics and mass spectrometry team. This is a senior individual-contributor role focused on chemoproteomic target discovery and validation, hit identification and characterization, and mechanism-of-action studies in support of small molecule drug discovery programs.
You will independently drive the development and deployment of novel mass spectrometry-based proteomic approaches for target identification, methods to elucidate mechanisms of action, and validate engagement through iterative hit identification and SAR advancement. You will work with advanced HPLC and mass spectrometry instrumentation, collaborate across project teams, and operate in a fast-paced environment at the intersection of chemistry and biology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as the chemical biology functional lead on programs, reporting and presenting discovery evidence for multiple small-molecule programs
- Propose and enable development of new proteomic workflows; evaluate emerging mass spectrometry strategies and approaches
- Design and execute quantitative proteomics experiments using data-independent acquisition (DIA) or other targeted workflows
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and communicate findings at internal meetings; proactively propose chemoproteomic experiments to support project advancement
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and electronic notebooks
- Maintain and tune Orbitrap-based mass spectrometer and HPLC instrumentation
- Engage with data science team to develop and adapt proteomic data analysis pipelines
- Mentor junior scientists, provide broad scientific direction, establish best practices, and act as a technical authority internally and externally
Requirements:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Proteomics, Chemical Biology, or related discipline with minimum 8+ years of relevant industry and/or postdoctoral experience
- Deep experience operating and maintaining mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography instrumentation (required)
- Expertise in MS-based proteomic methods to study protein/peptide modification, protein interactions, protein turnover, and/or targets using enrichment methods (required)
- Experience in MS-based sample preparation and target enrichment approaches (required)
- Experience in small molecule drug mechanisms of action (e.g., covalent ligands, molecular glues, PROTACs) (desirable)
- Knowledge/experience with activity-based protein profiling (ABPP) (desirable)
- Familiarity with Proteome Discoverer, Skyline, DIA-NN, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, or related proteomics software (desirable)
- Programming experience and data analysis (Python or R) for statistical analysis, visualization, and interpretation of large biological datasets (desirable)
- Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks requiring manual dexterity, including pipetting, sample preparation, and operation of analytical instrumentation
