Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Mission Software Engineer to join the Maritime team, which builds autonomous underwater and surface vehicles. This role focuses on field-driven debugging and root-cause analysis of production systems—taking anomalies reported from deployed vehicles (sensor failures, mission faults, data drift) and systematically reproducing, diagnosing, and fixing them in the live codebase.
Day-to-day responsibilities include: investigating field-reported anomalies to identify the actual subsystem at fault; reproducing issues using recorded sensor and mission data through live pipelines; leveraging existing metrics, dashboards, and centralized logs to reconstruct system state; validating fixes in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment; writing fixes across multiple languages (Rust, C++, Python, Go) with full test coverage and CI integration; determining whether issues are bugs, configuration problems, or deployment mismatches and fixing at the appropriate layer; documenting root causes and fixes to identify systemic gaps and inform on-call runbooks; and pushing back to owning teams when subsystem-level changes are needed rather than symptom patching.
This is positioned as a genuine entry point into the broader codebase and system architecture. Success in this role leads to subsystem ownership and roadmap work. The team operates with vehicles in the field, meaning real-world complexity and urgency.
Required qualifications: proven experience debugging unfamiliar code under time pressure with incomplete information; fluency in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, or Go; systems-level debugging instincts (logs, metrics, offline reproduction); hands-on experience with observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, Loki/ELK); Linux and systems fluency; ability to write clear, concise root-cause analyses; willingness to work close to hardware and sensors; and availability for 25%+ travel. Nice-to-have skills include robotics middleware, sensor drivers, real-time data pipelines, simulation-in-the-loop testing, CI/CD for embedded/fleet software, and on-call or field-support experience.
