Xona Space Systems is seeking a Senior Mechatronics Designer to join their spacecraft hardware development team in Montreal. The company is building Pulsar, an advanced positioning and navigation technology (PNT) satellite infrastructure in low Earth orbit designed to provide centimeter-level precision globally.
In this role, you will own subsystem design authority for electro-mechanical hardware, including requirements decomposition from spacecraft-level specifications. You will support the design and development of electro-mechanical subsystems with focus on dynamic mechanical systems and electrodynamic systems such as stator design and modeling. Key responsibilities include collaborating with mechanical, electrical, systems, avionics, and software engineers on integrated rotor/bearing/housing designs to co-optimize electrical and mechanical interfaces.
You will assist with electrical design, sensor interface circuits, and power conditioning. The role involves hands-on laboratory testing and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical assemblies, with opportunities to develop detailed test plans for breadboard, engineering model, and flight hardware. You will support integration of hardware with spacecraft avionics and power systems, design for manufacturability (DFM) efforts as subsystems transition to production, and supplier component evaluation.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. You must have experience leading electrical hardware design from concept through MVP and beyond, familiarity with schematic capture (Altium) and mechanical CAD (SolidWorks), and demonstrated experience designing motor drives and sensor electronics for precision mechanisms. Strong fundamentals in power systems, motor control, kinematics, and dynamics are essential, along with hands-on electrical testing experience.
Desired qualifications include precision robotics experience, high-speed rotary assemblies, electromagnetic compatibility testing, spacecraft systems or ADCS hardware exposure, control electronics experience, and hardware integration/environmental testing support.
