Dandy is transforming the dental industry by building an operating system for dental practices globally. The company is seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to join the Precision Robotics R&D team in Milpitas, CA. You will architect and integrate complex robotic hardware systems for next-generation Special Purpose Machines (SPM) that manufacture custom-made dental prosthetics. This role bridges high-level robotic theory with physical execution, requiring you to design the "nervous system" of manufacturing machines by integrating actuators, sensors, and motion control into cohesive, high-performance architectures. Key responsibilities include: - Architecting and integrating complex robotic hardware systems with precision actuators, sensors, and electromechanical subsystems meeting micron-level reliability standards - Applying deep technical knowledge of additive (3D printing) and subtractive (milling, grinding, polishing) manufacturing processes - Leading rapid prototyping, structural/thermal analysis, performance testing, and failure-mode analysis (FMEA) - Acting as primary technical interface between mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software teams Required qualifications: - 6+ years of machine-building experience in hardware, mechatronics, or robotics engineering with focus on system-level architecture for production systems - B.S./M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering - Expert-level proficiency with Solidworks or similar CAD platforms - Deep understanding of robotic kinematics/dynamics, motor controllers, and simulation tools - Hands-on experience with sensor integration, embedded systems, and manufacturing design execution - Ability to mentor junior engineers and manage multiple projects in high-velocity environments - Willingness to travel ~20% to suppliers, manufacturing, and testing facilities Bonus experience includes automation system integrator/OEM background, advanced motion control knowledge (PLC programming, high-performance controllers), laser interferometry, AOI/3D vision integration, FEA/CFD analysis, custom motor design, and robotic safety standards (ISO 10218/13482).
