The Senior Manager of Cloud Engineering will lead a team responsible for developing scalable, distributed cloud services using containerized microservices in a multi-cloud environment. This role drives the design, development, and delivery of cloud solutions with a focus on high-quality automation, observability, and operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing a cloud engineering team developing distributed microservices for a multi-tenant, scalable platform
- Overseeing cloud service development with emphasis on performance, security, and reliability
- Establishing coding guidelines, participating in code and design reviews, and ensuring high-quality automation and testing
- Collaborating with Product Management to align development with business goals
- Managing the full software development lifecycle from requirements through deployment and operations
- Fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation
- Ensuring adherence to agile methodologies and managing sprints and delivery timelines
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (Master's preferred)
- 10+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years managing cloud engineers
- Strong experience with Kubernetes, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and cloud infrastructure (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience in network security, TCP/IP, REST APIs, and Unix/Linux environments
- Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and collaborate across teams
The role requires 5 on-site days per week at Illumio's Sunnyvale, CA headquarters. This position involves access to software subject to U.S. export controls.
