Okta is seeking a Senior Manager of Engineering to build and lead a team of backend Java software engineers focused on developing mission-critical identity and security products. The role centers on managing team goals, contributing to product strategy, and developing talent within the Okta Secure Identity Platform organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing engineering team performance and career development, including recruitment, mentoring, and coaching
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and other teams to align on priorities and deliver high-impact projects
- Defining strategic direction and technical roadmap for the team's authentication and authorization platform features
- Providing technical leadership to ensure scalable, maintainable systems with high quality standards through testing automation
- Driving key team processes for project organization and delivery
- Conducting career management discussions, setting expectations, removing blockers, and providing feedback
- Balancing new feature development with maintenance of existing systems
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years managing engineering teams
- 7-10 years prior software development experience with Java or backend technologies
- Strong stakeholder management skills including alignment, prioritization, and communication
- Demonstrated ability to build teams from the ground up, managing performance and mentoring
- Experience with SDLC, testing automation, CI/CD platforms, and feature flag management
- Knowledge of secure web development, fault-tolerant systems, and cloud technologies
- Focus on delivering outcomes while balancing constraints and deadlines
