Salary: USD 119,800 - 234,700 / annual
Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is seeking a Senior Hardware Technical Program Manager to lead hardware server platform development and delivery for Azure's cloud technologies and services. This role sits at the intersection of hardware innovation and cloud infrastructure, responsible for transforming new hardware concepts into scalable solutions deployed across Microsoft's global cloud operations.
You will lead a virtual team of functional leads spanning hardware and software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking, and datacenter operations. Key responsibilities include:
• Develop and execute comprehensive cross-functional product development and launch strategies for new cloud hardware
• Lead technical program management for new hardware development, establishing clear Plans-of-Record (POR) and driving teams to meet milestones
• Provide technical leadership, identify technical risks, and collaborate with internal and external technology partners to form cohesive development plans
• Ensure deep understanding of product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies
• Leverage engineering expertise to solve problems, fill gaps, and achieve objectives across functional teams
• Manage risk in new product introduction, including scenario planning and mitigation strategies
• Communicate regularly with senior management, highlighting cross-functional risks and providing recommendations for product-level decisions
• Operate effectively in ambiguity, applying process where it creates value and designing new processes where needed
• Ensure cross-functional alignment on development milestones and datacenter infrastructure readiness
• Use program management tools to maintain stakeholder alignment on project plans
Microsoft Azure is experiencing explosive growth, and SCHIE powers the core infrastructure for 200+ online businesses including Office 365, Bing, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and Azure services (AI, compute, storage, networking).
REQUIREMENTS:
Required: Bachelor's degree AND 4+ years in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development (or equivalent); 2+ years managing cross-functional/cross-team projects. Must be able to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire and every two years thereafter.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree AND 8+ years in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development; 6+ years managing cross-functional projects; 1+ year reading/writing code; 7+ years in leadership roles driving technical hardware + software projects from requirements through launch (managing complex schedules, removing roadblocks); 3+ years providing executive-level communications and program updates; ability to partner with cross-functional teams on feature/infrastructure/process definition; experience creating and operationalizing organizational processes; coaching and growing Program Managers; stakeholder alignment and on-schedule/budget project delivery; monitoring engineering impact via KPIs; excellent technical design, problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills; demonstrated shipping of high-quality products; comfort with ambiguity and prioritization; proven cross-stakeholder collaboration; presentation skills for executives and IT management; supplier management experience with ODMs, SIs, and IHVs; experience with Optics Switch systems.
