Illumio is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead high-performing engineering teams in building the company's breach containment and ransomware defense platform. This role manages 9+ engineers and managers, with end-to-end accountability for product delivery across distributed cloud systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage teams of 9+ engineers and managers, owning complete delivery accountability
- Drive design, development, implementation, and documentation of engineering solutions
- Establish best engineering practices and operational excellence using product, engineering, and scrum metrics
- Collaborate across Illumio engineering teams to align on dependencies and share expertise
- Partner with Product Management and Business teams to set priorities and deliver products
- Work with architects and cross-functional teams to ensure solutions follow established architectural guidelines
- Participate in hiring and team building to create high-performing agile teams
- Mentor and coach team members on growth and development
- Engage with business owners and technical teams globally to gather requirements
- Contribute to organizational events like hackathons and demo days
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years building cloud-based, high-performance products
- 7+ years leading and managing high-performance teams
- Proven experience managing 9+ engineers/managers with E2E delivery accountability
- Strong stakeholder and program management skills
- Deep experience with distributed systems and cloud services (Java, Spring Boot, Golang, Python)
- Proficiency with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Experience with large-scale data platforms and data warehouses (BigQuery, RedShift)
- Strong production experience running cloud-distributed systems (2-3+ years)
- Knowledge of REST APIs, OOP design patterns, unit testing frameworks
- CI/CD expertise (Git, Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, GCP DevOps)
- SQL and NoSQL database knowledge
- Agile/Scrum methodology expertise
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills
The role requires 5 days per week on-site at Sunnyvale headquarters. This position involves access to export-controlled technology and requires compliance with U.S. export controls.
