Illumio is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead architecture and engineering initiatives for its breach containment and ransomware defense platform. This is a hands-on leadership role managing 9+ engineers and managers, with accountability for end-to-end delivery of cloud-based, high-performance distributed systems.
You will drive the design, development, and implementation of engineering solutions across hybrid multi-cloud environments. Key responsibilities include establishing engineering best practices, managing stakeholder relationships with Product and Business teams, mentoring high-performing agile teams, and contributing to product innovation with a focus on scale, performance, and operational resilience.
The role requires close collaboration with architects, cross-functional teams, and senior leadership to chart product roadmaps. You'll interact with teams globally, including those in India, to align on dependencies and technical requirements. You'll also participate in hiring, organizational events like hackathons, and help identify technical risks and alternative solutions.
Required experience: 6+ years building cloud-based, high-performance products; 7+ years leading and managing high-performance teams; proven track record managing 9+ engineers/managers with end-to-end delivery accountability. Strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud services (Java, Spring Boot, Golang, Python), and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP). Experience with large-scale data platforms, REST APIs, CI/CD tools, SQL/NoSQL databases, and Agile methodologies. Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and ability to influence without direct control. Must be willing to learn emerging technologies and adapt quickly to change.
Location: 5 days per week on-site at Sunnyvale, CA headquarters. This position requires compliance with U.S. export controls.
