Zapier is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Enterprise Integrations team based in India. This role focuses on building and maintaining critical integrations for Zapier's largest customers, with a unique emphasis on AI-assisted development workflows.
You will own the full lifecycle of enterprise-grade integrations across REST APIs, OAuth flows, and webhook-based systems. Key responsibilities include designing and operating "agent harnesses"—prompts, tools, test suites, and guardrails—that enable AI systems to safely modify integrations at scale. You'll lead important projects using agentic coding workflows, framing problems for AI agents while remaining accountable for correctness, safety, and maintainability.
The role requires deep customer empathy and direct engagement with cross-functional teams (Support, Success, Sales, Product, Security, Compliance). You'll work close to customers, pulling tickets and feedback to drive what ships, thinking in small milestone slices that move the product forward. You'll also mentor teammates on both backend fundamentals and agentic development best practices through pair-programming, code reviews, and prompt reviews.
This is an async-first, remote role with timezone overlap required 3–4 days per week with US East Coast hours during ramp-up. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience directing and reviewing AI-generated code, has hit real failure modes with AI agents, and actively evolves their development workflow. You believe enterprise can move fast and see compliance and security constraints as interesting design problems rather than blockers. You own your work, communicate proactively in writing, and hold yourself to high standards for quality and craftsmanship.
