Aeva is developing next-generation 4D LiDAR sensors that integrate all key components onto a silicon photonics chip. The company's sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, enabling autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.
The Scanning Systems team develops the electro-mechanical and optical systems that enable Aeva's LiDARs to scan the world. This is a multidisciplinary team tackling complex problems requiring high precision and reliability, pushing the limits of materials, controls, and manufacturing.
As a Senior Embedded Controls Engineer, you will design and implement controllers for Aeva's actuators. You'll own the hands-on design, implementation, evaluation, and debugging of controller performance across the actuator and associated electronics. Your responsibilities include developing and testing control architectures, implementing controller changes in C, root-causing control performance issues in collaboration with embedded, electrical, and mechanical engineers, and qualifying changes through coordination with reliability and test teams.
You bring 3+ years of experience developing controls for motion control applications, with strong fundamentals in control design (PID, frequency domain, state space). You have proven experience implementing real-time, production-level firmware in C and can prototype controller designs and analyze data using Matlab and Python. You understand motors, encoders, motor drivers, ADCs, and microcontrollers at a working level, with practical experience controlling brushed DC, BLDC, VCM, and MEMS motors. You've developed and debugged motion control electronics including motor drivers, ADCs, and encoders. Master's-level coursework in controls and embedded programming is expected. You're self-driven, able to take complete ownership of projects, communicate effectively across functions, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while juggling multiple projects.
