SpaceX is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, operation, and troubleshooting of facility and onboard electrical components and systems at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. This role involves close collaboration with Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral electrical utilities personnel to ensure safe and reliable electrical infrastructure for rocket launches and spacecraft operations. Key responsibilities include designing and specifying electrical power distribution systems, switchgear, motor control centers, lighting systems, ground support controls, UPS units, generators, automatic transfer switches, and grounding/lightning protection systems. You will provide engineering support for load flow analysis, electrical equipment evaluation, building grounding, and power monitoring systems. The role requires ensuring all equipment interfaces properly with mechanical and electrical systems while maintaining compatibility with facility power budgets. You will coordinate electrical installations and maintenance activities with government personnel, conduct code reviews using NFPA 70E and NEC standards, and troubleshoot existing electrical equipment and controllers. The position demands attention to safety and regulatory compliance, given the critical nature of launch operations. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline and 5+ years of professional experience in design, build, or commissioning of electrical systems. Preferred experience includes 3+ years working with power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, variable frequency drives, industrial pumps, MODBUS controls, medium voltage distribution, control panel design, and arc flash analysis. Additional requirements include the ability to pass Space Force background checks, willingness to work extended hours and weekends, ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions at heights and in confined spaces, capacity to lift 30 lbs unassisted, and willingness to travel between launch sites. ITAR compliance required: applicant must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required State Department authorizations.
