Arista Networks is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Hardware Engineering to lead multiple cross-functional teams in the design and verification of industry-leading networking Ethernet switches. This is a high-impact leadership role based in Sydney, where you will scale and grow the local hardware organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse hardware engineering team including hardware, firmware, signal integrity, diagnostics, and FPGA engineers at all experience levels
- Scale the Sydney hardware organization and establish new hardware labs with local development and test capabilities, including site planning, equipment procurement, power planning, and vendor negotiations
- Identify and implement new processes and tools to improve team productivity and efficiency
- Provide technical guidance on complex hardware bring-up and cross-functional problem resolution
- Collaborate with software and central engineering leadership to expand local teams beyond hardware
- Translate product direction from product management into detailed, executable system designs for cross-functional teams
- Drive vendor roadmaps for key components (ASICs, connectors, PCB vendors) aligned with internal product strategy
- Lead schematic and board design reviews and participate in design decisions
- Manage a portfolio of simultaneous projects, communicating priorities and status across the organization
- Drive high-quality product design with high first-pass manufacturing yields
- Ensure prototype manufacturing infrastructure and capacity meet portfolio needs
- Serve as escalation point for customer issues and engage with customers on product definition and critical matters

Requirements:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics
- 4+ years of management experience and 10+ years of relevant experience in networking or systems hardware design, particularly in the Enterprise market
- Proven experience leading hardware engineering teams across multiple simultaneous projects; prior technical management experience is required
- Proficiency with high layer count printed circuit boards and high-speed design; background knowledge of key protocols including Ethernet, SMBus, SPI, PCIe, POE, PTP, MDIO
- Expertise in Designing For Manufacturability (DFM) and collaboration with Contract Manufacturers (CM)
- Demonstrated success taking products from concept through production
- Strong communication skills and experience guiding direct reports, collaborating with peer managers, and interfacing with executive leadership
- Ability to translate high-level product direction into actionable steps
- Effective project management skills including execution tracking and corrective action implementation
- Experience with embedded x86/ARM system design, FPGA design, gigabit+ signaling, high-speed buses, and regulatory compliance
- Technical proficiency in documentation, schematic design, CAD collaboration, and software engineering collaboration
- Familiarity with signal integrity and power integrity concepts and tools (impedance, PDNs, differential routing, insertion loss, S-parameters, TDR, VNA)
- Background in scripting and general software development is a strong plus
- Australian work rights required (Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or demonstrable legal entitlement to work in Australia)
