Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Director of Hardware Engineering to lead and scale the Sydney hardware engineering organization. This role sits at the intersection of customer needs and product innovation, focusing on designing industry-leading networking Ethernet switches for cloud, hyperscale, and enterprise environments.
You will lead multiple cross-functional hardware teams (hardware, firmware, signal integrity, diagnostics, and FPGA engineers) ranging from recent graduates to industry veterans. Key responsibilities include:
• Scaling and growing the Sydney hardware organization, including team hiring, mentorship, and motivation
• Establishing and managing Sydney hardware labs with site planning, equipment procurement, power planning, and vendor negotiations
• Providing technical guidance on complex hardware bring-up and cross-functional problem resolution
• Translating product direction from product management into detailed, executable system designs
• Driving vendor roadmaps for critical components (ASICs, connectors, PCB vendors) aligned with internal product strategy
• Leading schematic and board design reviews, ensuring high first-pass manufacturing yields
• Managing prototype manufacturing infrastructure and capacity planning across the product portfolio
• Serving as the escalation point for customer issues and engaging directly with customers on product definition and critical problems
• Implementing process improvements and tools to enhance team productivity and efficiency
• Collaborating with software and central engineering leadership to expand local capabilities beyond hardware
Arista is pushing beyond current 1.6T-per-port systems toward higher-bandwidth, higher-radix, and more power-efficient architectures. The work spans high-speed electrical design, cabled backplanes, 200G+ per-lane SerDes, liquid-cooled switching, and next-generation optics for AI infrastructure.
REQUIREMENTS:
• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics
• 4+ years of management experience and 10+ years of relevant experience in networking or systems hardware design, particularly in the Enterprise market
• Proven experience leading hardware engineering teams across multiple simultaneous projects; prior technical management experience is required
• Proficiency with high layer count printed circuit boards and high-speed design; background knowledge of key protocols: Ethernet, SMBus, SPI, PCIe, POE, PTP, MDIO
• Expertise in Designing For Manufacturability (DFM) and collaboration with Contract Manufacturers (CM)
• Demonstrated success taking products from concept through production
• Strong communication skills and experience guiding direct reports, collaborating with peer managers, and interfacing with executive leadership
• Ability to translate high-level product direction into actionable steps
• Effective project management skills including execution tracking and corrective action implementation
• Experience with embedded x86/ARM system design, FPGA design, gigabit+ signaling, high-speed buses, and regulatory compliance
• Technical proficiency in documentation, schematic design, CAD collaboration, and software engineering collaboration
• Familiarity with signal integrity and power integrity concepts and tools: impedance, PDNs, differential routing, insertion loss, S-parameters, TDRs, VNAs
• Background in scripting and general software development is a strong plus
• Australian work rights required (Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or demonstrable legal entitlement to work in Australia)
