Vuori is seeking a Senior Data Modeler to design and govern data models that serve as the foundation for analytics, reporting, and business intelligence across the organization. This role emphasizes semantic and metrics-layer modeling, working at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and business strategy.
You will build the semantic layer that sits between raw data and downstream consumers—dashboards, reverse-ETL syncs, and AI-assisted querying tools. Working closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, you'll ensure consistent definitions across all touchpoints and resolve ambiguity before it reaches end users.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to semantic layer strategy by defining metrics, dimensions, and business logic once, ensuring consistency across BI tools, reverse-ETL syncs, and AI-assisted querying
- Designing serving-layer models as the "source of truth" for business definitions
- Building and governing semantic views and metrics layers (e.g., Snowflake semantic views, dbt metrics/semantic layer) that enable analysts and AI tools to query curated data without re-deriving business logic
- Partnering directly with analytics and BI consumers to understand downstream model usage and iterating on semantic definitions based on real query patterns
- Reducing metric drift by auditing existing reports and dashboards for divergent definitions and consolidating them into governed semantic models
Vuori is an athletic apparel company redefining casual-meets-performance wear, inspired by an active coastal California lifestyle. The role offers competitive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, generous employee discounts, paid time off, and wellness benefits.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in data modeling or related field, including senior or technical lead level work
- Experience designing or maintaining a semantic layer or metrics layer (dbt Semantic Layer, LookML, Snowflake semantic views, Cube) serving multiple downstream consumers
- Strong understanding of the difference between data models and semantic models, with ability to design for both correctness and analyst usability
- Advanced SQL skills and deep understanding of relational database design
- Experience modeling data within modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
- Experience with transformation frameworks such as dbt
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and documentation practices
- Excellent communication skills; ability to translate business needs into technical designs and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience preferred
- Foundational background in dimensional modeling (Kimball and/or Inmon) helpful but not required
- Experience with data catalog or governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Atlan) a plus
- Familiarity with data mesh or data product concepts a plus
- Background in relevant industry domain (finance, healthcare, retail) a plus
