GoodData.AI is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with Kotlin expertise to join their Analytical Stack team in Prague (with hybrid/remote flexibility and an option to work from their Brno office). You'll work in a product-oriented environment alongside a dedicated Product Manager, Architect, and QA team, taking end-to-end ownership of features that solve real customer problems.
The role focuses on building a fast, distributed query engine using Kotlin and Apache Calcite, developing algorithms for parsing and transpiling an internal query language (MAQL) based on semantic data models into SQL. You'll design APIs, write test-driven code, and shape product direction collaboratively. The backend is primarily developed in Kotlin and Python using modular microservices for data orchestration, integration, and processing, deployed on Kubernetes with technologies like DuckDB, Pandas, and Polars.
You'll be expected to deliver a variety of backend features, thrive in a dynamic collaborative environment, and take initiative. The ideal candidate has a robust computer science background, strong object-oriented programming experience, interest in clean software architecture, and a passion for solving complex algorithmic problems. Fluent English (spoken and written) is required, along with a strong sense of ownership, focus on technical excellence, and openness to constructive feedback.
Nice-to-have qualifications include working knowledge of open-source data technologies, experience with database engines and big data systems, and knowledge of semantic data modeling.
